CARBON BRUSH HOLDERS RANGE

Carbex offers a wide spectrum of carbon brush holders — from standard to customized solutions.

The function of the carbon brush is to transmit electric power or signals between fixed and rotating parts. This can occur within a wide range of applications in different operational conditions, all of which have special requirements. With our experience, that stretches back to 1887, we know what high demands are required of carbon brush holders in terms of design and performance.

Many of our carbon brush holders are designed in-house with unique and smart solutions which no other supplier on the market can offer. Check out our inquiry portal, PDF data sheets with product information or contact us. Carbex researches – develops and tests – verifies carbon brush holder materials and designs to ensure that we as a company are a strong innovative partner at the cutting edge of power and signal technology.

We provide a comprehensive partnership from pre-feasibility study and prototype testing to a fully developed concept.

V-type

V-Type is a carbon brush holder designed to attain balanced spring pressure, current distribution and reduced carbon brush wear. We have achieved this by using a main spring for all the brushes in the same phase and ensuring the angle to the slip ring is always 90°. This allows for adjustment of the angle of the pressure fingers to compensate for the spring’s various properties and the carbon brush’s actual weight when the brush is worn down.

The V-Type carbon brush holder also has a pressure plate that distributes the pressure. It also eliminates conductors in the carbon brushes from coming into contact with the slip ring when the brushes are worn down.

A carbon brush is not homogenous but pressed with a specific density that results in small variations of brush wear. To solve this, the V-type is equipped with compensation springs for each individual carbon brush.

Advantages of V-Type

  • Equal force on all carbon brushes
  • Prevents uneven brush wear and tear
  • Reduced maintenance
  • Space-saving design
  • Lower total weight
  • Integrated mechanical wear stop function
  • Designed to suit most common generators on the market

Accessories

  • Sensor for measurement of brush wear that emits a signal when it is time to change carbon brushes.
  • Sensor for external fan control to maintain optimal operating temperature (approx. 80°C).

Optimus DDG

A carbon brush behaves differently in different application environments. In particular, the temperature and humidity have a significant impact. It is equally important to collect and record climatic data such as operating conditions and also parameters such as power current, speed, voltage drop and mechanical losses, which are important when selecting carbon brush grades. Carbex also has access to many climatic chambers where we collect the data and control the ambient environments. We have the possibility to simulate everything from extremely arid climates (i.e. 0.1 g H2O / m3) up to 90% RH (Relative Humidity) at various temperatures.
